the last six months
I've had a full and busy six months - sometimes this theatre life can feel like a factory, going from one gig to the next. I don't often get a moment to stop and reflect on where I've been. Here's the rundown:
In Aug/ September I had the great privilege of directing Mother of the Maid for Pacific Theatre. I learned so much working on this show and am grateful for the opportunity to do so.
In October I headed to Chemainus and directed their Christmas show, Miracle on 34th St. This was the biggest project I've ever taken on as a director in terms of scope and size and I relished the challenge. I love working in that little town, returning to my island roots. In a unique full-circle moment I directed one of my University acting professors in the show. I was nervous about that - but we had a great time and she was amazing.
In December I hosted Christmas Presence for Pacific as I've done in the past. I love this tradition and am lucky to be a small part of it.
Most recently, I directed the Arts Club's remount of our 2018 production of Kim's Convenience. It was a gift to get to revisit this show that was a career highlight for me the first time around. It is currently on tour.

The Cake - pacific theatre: May 2019, costume design
I am so honoured to be doing costumes for this show - I think the script is tremendous and exciting and timely. We have a great cast and the show is being directed by powerhouse Angela Konrad.
Info about the show and tickets can be found here.
The Foreigner, Chemainus Theatre Festival
I'm happy to be here in Chemainus directing The Foreigner by Larry Shue. It runs Arpil 18th - May 6th.

kim's convenience - pacific theatre: sept/ oct 2018
Lots going on, as always - and devastatingly behind in updating this website, as always.
Here's what's coming up that I'm excited about:
I am directing Kim's Convenience at Pacific Theatre this fall. The team of designers and the cast that we've assembled is a dream. I'm so glad Vancouver is going to get to see this play again.
I'm also deep in design prep for a cool show I'm working on out at SAMC theatre at Trinity Western.
The Jessies happened last month and Almost, Maine was nominated for "Best Ensemble" in the large theatre category. I was a proud mama.
That's all for now!

almost, maine - pacific theatre: nov/ dec 2017
Coming up next I'm directing Almost, Maine at pacific theatre. This will be my directorial debut and it's already proven to be a stretching, challenging and exciting opportunity for me. I'm so grateful to have the opportunity!
It's going to be a beautiful show, my actors are killing it and it's a perfect little holiday treat if you are looking for an evening out.
More info about the show and ticket info can be found here.

the winter's tale & much ado about nothing - bard on the beach: summer 2017
I'm over the moon to be making my Bard on the Beach debut this summer in the Winter's Tale (my all time favourite Willy Shakes play) and Much Ado About Nothing. Eeeeeee!
We just started rehearsals and I can already tell that Shakespeare summer camp is going to be the best. I hope I see you down at Vanier park this summer!
corleone: the shakespearean godfather - pacific theatre: feb 3-25
Up next I'm taking on the role of Kay Adams in this unique production of Corleone: The Shakespearean Godfather. Read more about our show here. Classic Chic is a company I have long admired and been loosely associated with. I was meant to be in one of their original productions, but had a scheduling issue force me to drop out. I am so grateful to be joining them now for this show.
I have learned so much by watching these fiercely intelligent, big-hearted, talented women tackle these iconic Godfather roles. I can't wait to share with an audience. Come see! Ticket info here.
the fighting season - bleeding heart theatre - the cultch: Jan 10-21
I'm lucky to be spending early January hanging out with my old buds Evan and Sean as we put up this beaut of a new script at the Cultch. I saw The Fighting Season in 2015 when it debuted at the Fringe Festival and promptly swept all the awards. I'm happy to be doing costumes for this one and to be working with this stellar group of artists. It runs Jan 10-21st at the Cultch. More info here. |
a lovely sunday - chemainus theatre festival: sept 9-24
I'm currently in beautiful Chemainus, BC working on A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur. It's a rarely produced Tennessee Williams gem and I have the great pleasure of playing the antagonist - a part I rarely get to play! So fun. More info about the show here.
the out vigil - twenty something theatre/ firehall: mar 16-26
Hello! I'm back! Pride and Prejudice had a great, sold-out run and it was one of the best theatrical experiences of my life. It closed last week, and luckily I had another project to jump right into to help with the post-show blues.
I'm currently designing the costumes and props (first time doing props!) for The Out Vigil by Julie McIsaac. This is a beautiful show and I feel so lucky to be working on its world premiere after being involved with the workshop a couple years ago.
It runs March 16- 26th at the Firehall Arts Centre. There are Wednesday pay-what-you-can matinees! I highly recommend checking this new play out, it is gorgeous. More info here.

pride and prejudice - arts club: jan 28- feb 28
I start rehearsals in early January for Pride and Prejudice with the Arts Club. I'm *really* looking forward to this show. Some really dear friends are in the play and the cast is huge (17!) so I'm sure I'll make some new friends too. I'm playing Jane Bennet (the eldest sister) and I've really been enjoying delving into all things Austen in prep for the show. It runs Jan 28th - Feb 28th and more info can be found here. |
the foreigner - arts club, on tour: feb 18- mar 14
Coming up next I get to revisit one of my favourite shows I've ever done! Last September the Arts Club came and saw our Pacific Theatre production of The Foreigner. They liked the show and decided to buy the rights and tour it themselves as part of their 2015 season. We start rehearsals at the beginning of February and I can't wait to get back to Catherine, Charlie, Ellard and our little Georgian fishing lodge! Tour details and all other info can be found here. |
it's a wonderful life, radio play: dec 5-30
I'm really looking forward to starting rehearsals for this next week. It's going to be so nice to be back at Pacific Theatre and I can't wait to work with the incredible cast full of new and old friends.
I'm playing Mary Bailey, I get to play my ukulele, and we get to tell this beautiful story. What a Christmas gift it's going to be!
Details about the show, and tickets etc can be found here.

spotlight on alumni at uvic, wardrobe
Mack Gordon, and I have been invited back to our alma mater, the University of Victoria as their "spotlight on alumni" show. We will be doing The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe October 9-18th at the Phoenix Theatre at UVic. Tickets can be purchased by calling 250-721-8000.
We are so honoured to have been chosen to be the alumni show this year. I started theatre school ten years ago, so it feels like quite the "full circle" moment to be going back with my husband to the school where we met, with a show I love doing so much.

jessie awards, the foreigner
Last week Pacific Theatre was nominated for 14 Jessies, and 7 of those were for our production of The Foreigner, including Outstanding Production.
Working on The Foreigner was definitely one of the highlights of my past year. It was a dream show, with a dream cast - many of my best friends worked on that show with me. I'm pinching myself that we get to do it again with the Arts Club next year (more on that later). For now I'm so happy that the show was recognized by the Jessies this year. Congrats to all the nominees for a fantastic 2013 season!

the out vigil - twenty something theatre
I'm very happy to be working with Sabrina, Julie and the rest of the crew at Twenty Something Theatre on Julie's brand new play The Out Vigil. Even though I'm only volunteering on the show in a very small part - I'm thrilled to be a part of the project. It is a beautiful new script and I think it's going to be a gorgeous show. It's a short run this week - May 28-31st at the Havanna Theatre. Ticket info here. Hope to see you at the show!
mother tongue, old time gospel radio hour
I've got a couple shows coming up this spring. First up: this week I'll be performing Wednesday and Thursday night in the Old Time Gospel Radio Hour show at Pacific Theatre. This is going to be a really cool one - live blue grass music with Viper Central, actors performing a live radio show - fun!
After that I'm heading into an intensive rehearsal process for Mother Tongue, which is a Wild Excursions Production conceived and directed by Conrad Alexandrovicz. This is a piece of "poetic movement theatre" which involves dancers and actors. It's playing May 14-18th at the Scotia Bank Dance Centre in Vancouver.

wardrobe on tour, a new blog
We are once again on tour with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe! This winter we have taken the show on the road to the interior. We are now in Kamloops, where we will be performing the show until December 22nd at Western Canada Theatre. Info can be found here.
In case anyone is actually reading this site and following my updates, I have started a blog. You can find the link to the blog as the last page header up near my site's banner. Keep checking my blog as I'll be posting my "2013 - career in review" post soon!

the foreigner - a success!
This past weekend we closed our production of The Foreigner at Pacific Theatre. The show was received incredibly well. We had full houses through out the entire run and even sold out our entire last week. I had really high hopes going into this show as to how much fun we'd all have - and it really exceeded all my expectations. What an amazing experience!
In other news...this September I was profiled on this blog and that was a little embarrassing, but mostly exciting. Up next we head into rehearsals for our tour of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Very much looking forward to that adventure as well. In the meantime I'm in a film/ TV auditioning class and I'm also doing the Artist's Way. What a beautiful and full fall season it has been already!

short film summer, the foreigner
Between costume designing a huge show this August (check design tab for photos), teaching summer theatre classes for kids and working on two shows - I also managed to be on set quite a bit. I was very fortunate to be a part of two short films as well as a commercial shoot this summer. One of the most thrilling days was to be an extra in Motion 58's feature film Edweard.
I'm also gearing up to start rehearsals for The Foreigner, which is a Pacific Theatre production I've been looking forward to for quite some time. It runs Sept 20th- Oct 12th and I'll let you know more soon!

electric company, in tune conference
June is turning out to be a super full and exciting month! I'm going to be interning with the Electric Company on their brand new, innovative show "You Are Very Star." I'm thrilled to be working with them on the project, as they're one of my all time favourite Vancouver Theatre companies. I'm also going to be workshopping a new Tracey Power musical at Touchstone Theatre's In Tune conference called "Miss Shakespeare."
My motto? "At least you're never bored!"

arts club actor's intensive, actor's symposium
I'm thrilled to announce that I've been accepted into the Arts Club Actor's Intensive program, starting this April. It's a six week course that will stretch me as an actor as I get to study under some of the best theatre professionals in the city (Scott Bellis, Dean Paul Gibson, Wendy Gorling etc). I am so excited to be taking part in this!
I also just finished attending the GVPTA's first ever actor's symposium, and I'm so glad I did. I learned a lot from others in our theatre community, reconnected with old friends and made some new ones. It was a treat to take some time out from my busy schedule and give two days of focus to my life and career as an actor.

costume designing and wardrobe spring tour, film shoot
The last few months have seen an influx in design work for me, which has been a wonderful new challenge. Check out my "design" tab to see some pictures from the latest show I designed - Picasso at the Lapin Agile for the UBC Medplay Society. Up next, I'm working on costumes for Twenty-Something Theatre's Us and Everything we Own.
Following that, we head out on tour with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe for a few weeks on the North Shore (April 29th - May 5th). The show runs one week at Presentation House, and one week at Kay Meek - I'll write more closer to those dates.
Finally, this Friday I get to act in a friend's short film he's directing. I'm excited to be on set again and hopefully get some more shots for my demo reel. I'll link to the final product on here, when it's done. xo K

the lion, the witch and the wardrobe: dec. 5th - 15th, 19th - 22nd.
This is one of my all time favourite productions I've ever been in. I first understudied the show in 2009 at Pacific Theatre and got to do a number of performances for student matinees. This time around I have the privilege in not only getting to be the main-stage cast at PT, but also getting to tour it through out the lower mainland. If that wasn't enough, it's a two-hander and the other actor is my husband, Mack Gordon. Amazing.
All the details about the various dates and touring locations can be found at the LWW tour website. I hope many of you are able to come see the show. I'm very proud of it and excited to share Narnia with you all.

Debts - It's back!
This show was an amazing experience last year, and I'm so glad we get a second shot at it. Make sure you get your tickets quickly - it sells out!
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND.
After a sold out, critically acclaimed run last October, ITSAZOO Productions is proud to remount Debts, just in time for the Halloween season. Fusing the classic works of Edgar Allen Poe with the conventions of 80s “slasher” films and old time radio plays, Debts is an original site-specific horror event. Performed at the historic Roedde House Museum in Vancouver’s West End, audiences of 15 will join five teenagers as they crash the wedding from hell, encounter bizarre members of the Usher family and discover that some debts can only be paid with blood.
The Roedde House Museum, built in 1893, is the perfect backdrop for this innovative haunted house experience. Written and directed by acclaimed Vancouver playwright Mack Gordon, Debts features a who’s who cast of up-and-coming Vancouver talent and emerging artists, including: James Avramenko, Jayme Burke, Chris Cook, Fred Galloway, Brett Harris, Mike Klemak, Bryan Nothling, Kate Richard, Laureen Smith, and Kaitlin Williams. Designs by Kyle Sutherland, Jane Sanden, and Won-Kyoon Han.
Debts runs at the Roedde House Museum (1415 Barclay St. – West End) from October 17 to November 3. Performances are Wednesday through Saturday, showing nightly at 7:00pm and 9:00pm. Limited audience capacity of 13 people per show. PATRONS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO BOOK IN ADVANCE. Tickets $17/$21 available through itsazoo.org or at the door when available (CASH ONLY).
WARNING: Water based Haze, enclosed spaces, not suitable for people under 13 years old, this is a promenade play so you need to be mobile.
